During the event, numerous ceramic masters from across China—both north and south—participated and showcased their artistry. Over 500 outstanding ceramic pieces created by China’s Master Craftsmen of Arts and Crafts as well as Shanxi Province’s Master Craftsmen of Arts and Crafts were displayed, attracting more than 10,000 visitors.
It is reported that this ceramic art masterpieces appreciation event is organized by the Jiangxi Provincial Society of Arts and Crafts, the Jingdezhen Society of Arts and Crafts, and the Shanxi Art Museum, with support from Shanxi Guoya Cultural & Artistic Co., Ltd. and other institutions. The event aims to help audiences gain a deeper understanding of the creative essence and artistic value of ceramic art, and to fully appreciate the true charm of ceramic culture. At the same time, it provides a platform for ceramic enthusiasts to exchange ideas, learn about ceramic knowledge, promote ceramic culture, and enhance their artistic appreciation skills.
This exhibition brings together a galaxy of master artisans and offers numerous highlights. Dozens of Jingdezhen arts and crafts experts have not only brought exquisite works but also demonstrated live their superb ceramic painting techniques and kiln-firing processes, enabling visitors to immerse themselves in the creation of these precious ceramic artworks. Among the exhibits are masterpieces by renowned artists such as Wang Xiliang, a master of Chinese arts and crafts, and Ye Zhaoyun, a master of Chinese calligraphy, painting, and ceramic art. The exhibition also features “Qingyun Yaji—A Winter Night Guest Arrives, Tea Serves as Wine,” a unique, once-in-a-lifetime composite underglaze decoration jointly created by three of China’s leading contemporary ceramic artists: Qin Xilin, Wang Huaien, and Dai Ronghua—a piece that has left visitors thoroughly impressed. After personally viewing the exhibits at the show, the 90-year-old celebrated Chinese painter Zhao Meisheng exclaimed: “Many of the vessel shapes displayed here are ones I’ve never seen before.”
According to Quan Guisheng, chairman of Shanxi Guoya Culture and Art Co., Ltd., the organizer of the exhibition, this appreciation event is the largest, highest-profile, most comprehensive contemporary ceramic art gathering ever held in Shanxi in recent years, featuring the greatest number of exhibited works and the most prominent lineup of participating artists. The reporter also learned that during the exhibition, numerous high-level forums and academic exchanges were held on topics including ceramic culture, ceramic art, and ceramic collecting. Experts attending the event conducted on-site inspections of some of the most representative ancient kiln sites in Jiaocheng County, Shanxi Province, and engaged in lively discussions on the cultural heritage of ancient ceramics from both northern and southern China.
